Those who follow me on Instagram would know that I didn’t use to share many flatlays in the past, but now I love to share them to show you nice things I got or for more detailed shots. This change is due to I didn’t know how to properly do a flatlay and I always failed so tremendously (everything looked so forced and definitely not looking cute). Today I want to share with you some tips that have changed my flatlay game, and these are the tips that helped me improve and love taking cool flatlay shots.
First of all, you should decide if you want it to look casual (just a bunch of things laying around) or very carefully organized. I’m more of a disaster person, so I always go for those casual looking flatlays. Also, I love to choose a color palette to keep everything in beautiful harmony. In my case, everything pretty neutral.
I always use a white or neutral base, for example, my bed sheets or a table. Then, to make it cooler I use printed posters or magazines. Something that I use on every single photo is gold accessories like earrings or rings. You already know how much I love gold, so this is a must for every single flatlay that I shoot. I also love to incorporate other items, such as the trendy micro-sunglasses or even cute macarons. Last but not least, you need a main item, the one that is going to stand out the most of the flatlay, and the one that is going to be the main feature of the shot. It can be a pretty bag or a book, which are the ones that I use the most.
Do you like shooting flatlays? Which are your tips? Definitely tell me so in the comments down below and I’ll be glad to read!
