BLOGGING 101: FASHION WEEK

Everyone knows about Fashion Week but nobody knows how to make it there. Looks like a dark side of FW no one knows about, or nobody wants to talk about to keep it exclusive and private. But you know what, there’s a way to get there, and there’s no need to have 4,2 million followers on Instagram or be Kim K.

A lot of you ask me how I made it to the 080 Barcelona fashion week, for example. I’m going to share with you how I made it to get there, and then give you some tips to attend to your local or the worldwide famous FW.

When I was finishing high school I had to do a research project that was so important, and a huge percentage of my grade. I chose to do it about the process of fashion, since the first idea until the final show. For that, I had to interview and talk to too many people. Once I had all the information I needed there’s only one thing that lacked in my research project, to actually attend a final show. By that time the 080 Barcelona Fashion was about to start, so I applied to go to a fashion conference that took place in the same enclosure as the fashion shows. After about 3 hours of listening to those men and women, I decided to go to the information point of the fashion shows and ask if they have any left invitations. They told me to go here 5 minutes before the show started, and so I did. Luckily I got to attend the first show of my life.

The next season (I was no longer working on that research project) I decided that I was going to try my best to make it to the shows. What did I do? Once I knew which brands and designers were going to go I sent emails to every single of them (the ones that I liked) explaining that I was a blogger and that I would love to attend to their shows and talk about them on my blog. Some of them replied. I had invitations to the shows. Wow.

The following season I did the same, and then I discovered that I could also apply to get an accreditation as a blogger. Oh wow! And I got it. Thanks to that accreditation I could go to as many shows as I wanted to and that was incredibly amazing.

Then the same has happened in the following seasons. Also, as the brands and designers already know me by now, they send me invitations without even having to ask for them. That’s a boosting feeling.

Now, how can you make it to a fashion week?

• Look if the designers, brands or any sponsor is going invitation giveaways. You never know if you’re going to be the lucky winner.
• Send emails to all the brands and designers you like and you know they’ll be having a show. Introduce yourself and kindly ask for an invitation. If you’re a blogger talk about your blog. They’ll love it.
• Look if there’s any accreditation, or email the organization asking if there’s any way to make it there. They always respond pretty kindly trying to help. Again, if you’re a blogger send them the link and some info.

And basically, never give up. I’ve been so many years dreaming about it and I made it. Nothing will come to you like magic. Sen emails, introduce yourself, ask for invitations. Work for it and it will come!
