Carys Griffiths, known as The Style Editorials, is a UK based content creator that experienced quite a fast growth because of her beautiful curated classy and vintage shots that she takes all by herself. Almost all her content is shot from home, always playing with furniture and details to make it look like a different place every time.

Briefly describe what you do as a content creator and how it all started?

As a content creator, I create images and videos across a few different platforms that are aesthetically pleasing to me and hopefully my audience. I often accompany my images with a message of self-help and/or tips/tricks to support general wellbeing which is the focus of my paid job away from Instagram. I started my account back in 2014 however it was just a personal account back then. It was only in the summer of 2018 that I started to take it more seriously and really focus time and effort into my content.

Many people ask for help to partners, friends and family to take their photos, but you take all the photos yourself, with the help of a tripod. Which is your best advice for someone who also wants to take all the photos by herself?

I don’t really use a tripod at home – I just use anything around me that I can rest my iPhone on! If I shoot outdoors which I have done a few times then I’ll use a tripod. The best thing I can say is experiment – lots! Take lots of pictures and see what works for you. Take time to understand photography and editing and get to know the angles that are the most flattering. Practise, practise, practise! Most importantly, let your personality shine through what you create.

You create most of your content at home, making it look different every time. How do you manage to create different scenarios in the same room?

This is quite simple- I use different rooms for different shots and depending on what kind of image I’m creating I’ll select the most appropriate room for this.

It’s clear to see that you have a really personal way of creating and editing your photos which makes them unique. How did you figure out your own style and aesthetic for all the content you create?

Thank you! My aesthetic has developed over time- when I first took Instagram seriously I was very attracted to the minimal styling I saw but it wasn’t really me: it didn’t represent my home or how I dressed that much (I still love looking at minimal style images though). Gradually as I let my natural style and personality come through within my images, my content became busier and more in line with my love of vintage Parisian styling which is my natural style. This dictated my editing style too. This is also when I saw the most growth on my account so the moral of the story here is always be yourself!

How do you think quarantine is affecting the content creator community?

As my paid work is not content creation (I work in the NHS) I’m still having to go to work daily and as most of my content is produced at home there hasn’t been many changes needed for me. I can imagine this has been difficult for a number of others who aren’t used to shooting indoors though and has required them to delve deep into creative ideas. I think this can definitely be a good thing as it encourages others to be more creative, this can only lead to better quality content for audiences.

There are many people that have always dreamed of starting their own platform (either on Instagram or a blog) but never have because of a lack of time. Do you think this is a good time to get creative and try new things?

I upload almost daily since 2018 whilst doing a full-time job so I believe if you want something enough, you’ll make time for it. I definitely think for those who have more time now, exploring their creativity is a good thing – it’s also a good way to support mental wellbeing at times of great restrictions and encourages people to try new hobbies or develop new skills.

Many of us are taking advantage of this time at home to improve our skincare routine. What is the one product you would really recommend?

This is very difficult as I’m not a skincare expert or a dermatologist and as everyone’s skin is different others may not see the same results as I have. My go-to product has always been The Ordinary AHA/BHA peeling solution: it really brightens and tightens my skin whilst unclogging blocked pores.

And, last but not least: What are the first 3 things you’ll do after quarantine?

Definitely go to a coffee house and sit outside watching the world go by. Probably a visit to a national garden or old mansion estate as I love walking around these kinds of places. And lastly, a meal in my favourite restaurant with my family.
