SUCCEED IN FASHION: NAIMA BARCELONA

Naima, as known as Naima Barcelona (@instanaimabarcelona) is a blogger I’ve been following for years now. The first time I met her was at an event she hosted and I loved how nice she was with everyone. She is a very charming person and we’ve been in touch since that day. I really wanted to know more about a woman who left her job (what we traditionally know as a job) to make her hobby a career. Nowadays, she owns Naima Barcelona Blog and her Instagram page with over 361k followers.

How did you start? I’ve always been passionate about fashion and photography, even though I’ve worked in telecoms. I started working in this to give free rein to my passion, through Tumblr, where my blog quickly became one of the three reference ones. The lack of jobs for my professional profile weren’t suitable for me, in relation to jobs I’ve had before, and the growth and relevance of my Tumblr were the last boosts to definitely start naimabarcelona Blog. At first, my Instagram started as an inspiration and then I started incorporating photos of me, even though I prefer being behind the camera.

Who or what inspired you to start? At the beginning I had as a reference the blog They All Hate Us. I really liked the creativity that they shared daily.

Who was your first style icon? As I was telling you, Tash Sefton and Elle Ferguson from They All Hate Us. I started my blog with them in mind, and a while after they started to share photos of mine. In fact, they are the ones that made me very well-known on Tumblr, because they often tagged me and shared my inspirations.

Which is the best strategy to bring traffic to your blog and social media? To share something different. If you do the same as others do you’re just going to be another one. I’ve noticed that people are in a hurry to grow, and hurry is a horrible counselor. I recommend you to be different than everyone else.

Which is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger? The first and greatest satisfaction is to work on what I love. Also, being a blogger has given me the chance to meet people I admire, like Anine Bing. To meet her in person and be one of the first bloggers from Barcelona that has collaborated with her has been one of many satisfactions I’ve had due to this job.

How do you choose the brands you work with? Is important to choose well? I never accept something that does not suit me, even though that means earning less money. Talking about choosing, like in all the other fields of my life, you must choose well, and I always choose the most natural and suitable for me.

Tell me about a mistake you’ve done and what you learned about it: Sometimes the name of the brand blinds you and you accept the deal because the brand is very important and relevant, but beyond the brand, there’s your image. The brand comes to you because they think that you’re going to provide them with something. But, if you see that you can’t participate and be yourself on that project, it’s better to say no.

How do you keep creativity alive to keep creating content? Usually, I like to be updated on things about fashion and decoration, so I spend some time daily to this activity, that I understand as a part of my job and that I have a lot of fun with. Also, my getaway trips to Morocco are so useful to come back fresh and relaxed. I’ve always been a creative woman, if I like something and it really suits me I find a thousand different ways to do it. You ask for 5 and I give you 10. I’ve always loved to experiment.

What do you want to change or improve this 2018? I want to travel a little more, relax more, do yoga, sport, or dance, to get rid of stress. Also, to only work on projects that I’m excited about, as I told you before.

Which advice would you give to someone that is about to start a blog? A lot of passion and patience. Nothing will work out if you don’t have those two things. And, above everything, believe in yourself.

Has anyone helped you along the way? I should really say no. My learning has been my mistakes and trying to learn from people I admire. I think that you learn a lot more making mistakes and learning from them. You must observe and have your own judgment.

Favorite designers (or brands): Ellery, Jaquemus, Johanna Ortiz.

Favorite Instagrams/Blogs: I have a lot, actually. I’m sorry I’m not able to name all of them. Elle Ferguson, Tash Sefton, Zina Charkoplia @zinafashionvibe, Erica Hoida @fashionedchicstyling, Anouk Yve, Sasha Simón @lolariosstyle …

Which are your favorite beauty products? Natura Bissé, Shiseido, MAC, terracotta powder from Guerlain, Sensilis, ISDIN for sunscreen, Trendy Hair l’Oreal for hair.

I’m so happy she accepted to be interviewed while having a coffee. She is a really charming and natural person, who will tell you everything she thinks without even hesitating. I loved hearing about all her fashion and social media journey, and also knowing her own vision about this subject. I really encourage you to take a look at her blog and Instagram page because her style and personality make her so unique and, as she told me in the interview, that’s the key to success.

Have you ever heard about her? What do you think about her story? Definitely tell me so in the comments down below and I’ll be glad to read!

Love and lipstick ❤

Original version. In spanish:

Como te decía, Tash Sefton y Elle Ferguson de They All Hate Us.

A mí me pides cinco y te doy diez, me encanta experimentar.

Diseñador (o marca) favorito: Ellery, Jaquemus, Johanna Ortiz.

Instagrams/blogs favoritos: En realidad tengo muchos, siento no poder nombrarlos a todos. Elle Ferguson, Tash Sefton, Zina Charkoplia /@zinafashionvibe, Erica Hoida/@fashionedchicstyling, Anouk Yve, Sasha Simón/@lolariosstyle …

    • There are so many bloggers who are running a successful blog while working at something else not related to fashion, beauty, etc. I’ll try to find someone and interview her!
