BLOGGING 101: SPONSORED POSTS

In my first year of blogging at The Gold Lipstick, I received an email from a brand that wanted to sponsor a post on my blog. Oh wow, that was new to me. They were offering me $12 for a post talking about their dresses and add some links. This was the first money I was making out of my blog! Sponsored posts weren’t a huge thing yet, so something like this was so exciting and special. I remember telling my friends and family about it.

Now things have changed. Brands and companies are used to work with bloggers, whether is through collaborations or sponsored posts. My blog has changed so much in three and a half years. Now I have more views and my content has better quality, so I know that my rates should be higher than those initial $12.

This has been, and it still is, one of my biggest headaches regarding blogging. How much should I ask for? I don’t want brands to take advantage of my work, but I don’t want to be a pricey blogger who asks for much more than what she should. It is a real struggle.

How I established my rates? You can find lots and lots of formulas on the internet telling you how much you should ask for, but I can assure you that none of those are going to work. I established my rated thanks to experience. Through all these three years I’ve had many sponsored posts. I’ve been keeping track of all of these and now I know which is my average price. Obviously, this price can change a bit regarding the length of the article, the photos, and the links you have to add.

Never undervalue your work. I was shy to ask for a little more money, but I can say that there are TOO many brands and companies taking advantage of newbie bloggers to pay much less than what they should. If an article takes you too much time to shot, edit and write, just think about if all that work is worth the money they’re paying to you.
