BLOGGING 101: YOU SHOULD GET PAID

I’ve recently seen so many people complain about how many others work for free with brands. It is fine when you’re starting and you’re just seeing how everything works and still improving your content. But, you can’t be your whole life working for products in exchange.

Clothes, makeup, and jewellery won’t pay your rent, food, and expenses. Right? There are many brands who take advantage of content creators to do the job completely for free. As an advertising and PR student, I can tell you HOW VALUABLE your work is. Brands don’t need to pay creatives, art directors, models, hairstylists, makeup artists, stylists, photographers, all the production, and editing… And also, they already have a huge and really well-segmented audience to be addressed to. That is so much work for you even though you do it because you’re passionate about it (like I do), and it has a huge value for them.

Don’t be afraid to ask for money in exchange. It is true, there are many brands that will say no and try to find another person who does it for free. But, if we all start taking this as something serious and professional they will stop taking advantage of our work.

I’ve lost so many deals because of this, but then I think about how much time, effort, and hard work I put into all the collaborations and partnerships I do, and I know that this is my job and I must be paid for it.

So, I write this blog post to tell you how valuable your work is, even though you do it because you like photography fashion, or whatever you do. You spend time and work hard for a good result, and it must be remunerated. Don’t let brands take advantage of us and get their work done for free.

Which are your thoughts about it? Definitely tell me so in the comments down below and I’ll be glad to read!

  1. You’re so right about this. Agree with you!! Some of these brands just want everything for free, but it takes money to maintain these blogs as well. Ha!!

  3. I absolutely agree with you. I’ve been working in a big advertising agency as an Art Director once and I know how editorials are created. As you said – brands can save a lot of money, because they don’t need to hire photographers, models, find locations, etc. Brands pay HUGE amounts of money to advertising agencies, because ad agencies have to hire another bunch of people. While with influencer/blogger it’s so easy – many content creators became so professional and can do all of that.

I just started in blogging, so I don’t do paid collaborations and don’t really expect that. But I see that many bloggers out there have such a strong position and I think nobody should be used up.

    Thanks for writing this 🙂
