BLOGGING 101: HOW TO TAKE GOOD PHOTOS

A few days ago I did a “questions” thing on Instagram stories asking you about what you wanted to see next on the blog, and some of you coincided on the same topic: how to take good photos for Instagram and the blog.

First of all, I wanted to say that I don’t consider myself a professional model or photographer, but I think that practice makes perfect, and I can perfectly speak about this topic because of my years of experience.

I really think it’s an interesting topic to write about, so today I’m going to share with you a few tips that maybe you’ve already seen in many other places before, but that actually make a difference for me and I want to share with you from my own experience.

GOOD LIGHTING IS KEY

Independent of which camera you own, good lighting is a must. I’m not going to get into personal preferences when it comes to types of light, but keep in mind that good natural light is the best you can use for a good shot. It will always give you more quality and depth, as well as a better definition of what you’re trying to capture.

IT’S ALL ABOUT ANGLES

For those who don’t know yet, I’m 1,62cm tall, but you always think I’m taller because my legs look pretty long on the photos I post. It is true that I have a slim figure that helps me trick your eye and look taller than what I actually am, but the secret is always on the angles. Try to shoot from above and you’ll see the huge difference it makes.

KNOW YOUR POSES

When I’m taking photos of my friends they always tell ask me “How do I pose?”. Honestly, I never know what to do. Again, practice makes perfect, and every single person has their most suitable poses. It is all about practising in front of the mirror (I know, this is a typical advice that sounds kinda funny but it actually helps a lot), or taking loads of photos until you find the ones that make you look the best. Those will be your go-to poses.

GET A NICE QUALITY CAMERA

It all depends on how professional you want to be, or the purpose of your shots. But, regardless of the purpose, good quality is key. There’s no need to get an expensive camera, since many phones take amazing photos nowadays, but if you’re going for a more editorial and professional result, try to get a nice camera and that’ll make a huge difference. This will help a lot when editing as well, since you’ll be able to retouch and play with it without losing all its quality in the process.

DON’T OVER EDIT

It’s always nice to edit photos a bit to correct the temperature, undertones, saturation, contrast, etc. But, I wouldn’t recommend you to over edit your photos, since it’s going to look pretty fake and, consequently, nobody is going to like it, regardless it was a great photo in the beginning.

So, these are the top tips that really work for me and I really wanted to share with you. I really hope these help you in some way in your upcoming photo shoots.

Do you have any other tips? Did any of these help you? Definitely tell me so in the comments down below and I’ll be glad to read!
