Hegia de Boer is a content creator based in The Netherlands that has been sharing the most delicate and Parisian-styled content on Instagram for such a long time. She’s well known for her inspiring house decor, the most beautiful flower arrangements, vintage outfits and many gold jewellery.
She has also just launched a new jewellery collection hand in hand with the brand S-kin Studio, inspired by flowers.
Briefly describe what you do as a content creator and how it all started?
Just as the name tells already, I create content for my brand partners, but most importantly I create content based on what I genuinely love. It’s all started as a side hobby beside my main (previous) job. I think it’s important to start it with pure intention to share what you love, instead of taking it off as a career immediately.
You have recently launched a jewellery collection with S-kin Studio, inspired by flowers. How did you decide to create it and why is it inspired in flowers?
I think it just came naturally for both of us to create something around flowers, I’m a crazy flower lady ahaha 😀 I post a lot of flowers photos but it’s also because I do always have fresh flowers at home. Just for a side background information here, flowers are abundant and very affordable here in the Netherlands, as we are one of the world’s largest flowers exporter. That’s why I always have them at home. They make me happy although I don’t have a garden or live near a park. I see flowers as my muse, they maintain their beauty and grace in all phases of their lives.
It’s clear to see that you have a really personal way of creating and editing your photos which makes them unique. How did you figure out your own style and aesthetic for all the content you create?
It’s actually much simpler than most people might have assumed, I like to keep things simple and not complicated. I always try to only trust my own eye and not get influenced by other people’ styles. Just walk straight on my lane and what I feel is right. That’s why I also don’t use any filters, just manual editing in Lightroom when necessary.
We’re going through a period of time where people are being asked to stay at home for their own (and other people’s) safety; this requires a change of routine and way of doing things. How do you stay creative during quarantine?
I stay creative because I have to, since this is my job. But I believe that we can get more creative when we are forced to, like you can work faster when it’s close to deadline :)) creativity also can emerge from boredom. So this is actually a perfect timing. The key is to just do it. BUT, there is a huge “but” here. If you don’t feel like doing anything, it’s also okay! Don’t feel guilty if you feel like you’re behind everyone else on social media. Your life is yours and do whatever feels right at this moment for you.
You create most of your content at home, making it look different every time. How do you manage to create different scenarios in the same room?
It’s actually due to the space limitation at home, that I have to stuff my living room with unrelated things like my open closet, for example. I think as long as you know the main potential of the space, then play around with it! My space is not big, but it has a pretty good light and that’s what I emphasize.
How do you think quarantine is affecting the content creator community?
I think this is the period where content creators are building a closer relationship with their audience. Showing support that we are all in this together. We can use the platform to share a bit of lighthearted and fun things to help brighten up people’s days that are already bombarded with bad news. I also just wanted to let people know that I know no better than anyone else regarding the situation, we are all the same. Sometimes feeling down and anxious too. So it’s a good moment to open up a little bit more and let people know that they are not alone.
There are many people that have always dreamed of starting their own platform (either on Instagram or a blog) but never have because of a lack of time. Do you think this is a good time to get creative and try new things?
Anytime is a good time. The perfect time is always now. 🙂
Many of us are taking advantage of this time at home to improve our skincare routine. What is the one product you would really recommend?
Klairs toner! I’ve been wearing it for 4 years straight and it really the basis of anything else in my skincare routine. It makes my skin super plump!
And, last but not least: What are the first 3 things you’ll do after quarantine?
Have a coffee in the city with my friends, go to the park and have a picnic, and go to the museums!
Have you heard from her before? Any thoughts you would like to share about her interview? Definitely tell me so in the comments down below and I’ll be glad to read!
Love and lipstick ❤
