Deal with a bad day

We all have bad days, but some people struggle to go through them more than others. I always try to be as open here as I can when it comes to mental health (don’t forget to read my Be kind to yourself post talking about the subject) because I think that is such an important topic that for some reason it’s usually avoided when it should be one of the common ones.

To feel good from within is key to live a happy life, even though the ups and downs that we all have. Today I wanted to share with you some of my top tips and things I love to do to overcome those bad days when I don’t feel like doing anything and all I need is to take time for myself to relax and calm down. Then, I’ll be all good for a great day the next morning.

Surround yourself with lovely people

There’s nothing better than surrounding yourself with nice, supportive and understandable people. Honestly, nobody has time to deal with people who makes you feel bad or that only want to be around during your good times.

Cuddle with your pet

I don’t know why this is so comforting, but it is. Cuddling and spending time with your pet will make you feel better and focus on something else. Animals are such a special thing.

Journaling

Writing everything down is a way to get it out. I started journaling because it was so hard for me to get asleep at nights, so I started writing all my thoughts before going to sleep and it worked wonders. The same way, write down your feelings and thoughts when your head is a mess and believe me it always helps, since when you write it you have to structure them and try to put into words all you’re feeling.

Be gentle with yourself

Being harsh on yourself never helps. Be understandable and have patience. It takes time to learn about yourself, as weird as it sounds, and all you need is time and patience. Talk to yourself kindly and treat yourself like you would like other people to treat you.

Go outside

Going out for a walk is always a great idea. Sunlight and fresh air work wonders because it’s a way for us to refresh and get all the vitamins that our body need and, therefore, we feel better. You don’t need a plan but just walk (a bit of exercise also helps a lot) wherever you walk with no hurry, and pay attention at everything that surrounds you while listening to music, for example.

Take a shower

Showers are magic. We might get too tense when having a bad day or time, so a warm shower always helps to untighten our muscles and feel more relaxed. Also, warm water is really comforting.

Play music

Music has the power to express emotions and make you feel things with just some notes. I adore music and I have a playlist for every single occasion. When it comes to calm down and relax, I go for more instrumental and slow songs with deep notes so I can focus on them (or certain instruments every time) and that really calms me down every time.

Meditate

I honestly have no idea and I haven’t tried it but I know many people who do it and really recommend it. Such a great thing to incorporate into your daily routine, as well as doing it when you need to calm yourself down and focus on taking care of yourself.

Clean, organise and redecorate

This is probably my favourite one. I always say that a clean space is a clean mind, and same with organisation. I spend so much time making sure I live in a nice space that inspires me and makes me feel good. Also, it is so therapeutic to spend some time focused on something else, which could also be mixed with the previous music tip.

These have been the top tips/advice that work for me the best and that I know work for other people too. Again, I’ll never get tired to repeat that taking care of yourself is so important and something we should never forget. Happiness starts from within and that should be our priority.

Do you do any of these things too? Any other recommendation? Definitely tell me so in the comments down below and I’ll be glad to read!
